Information on NPS

  • Calorimeter page
  • radiation for NPS: a few 100s/10s rad/hour @ (20-30) deg range with magnet off/on;
  • typical gain of PMT at operation: 1E3; Preamp: x12
  • In the active base design, by Vladimir Popov, Fig.6 shows gain vs. LED frequency, show up to 2-3 increase in gain for certain rates.
  • In report at the 2013 Hall C meeting, slide 12, gain changes at > 50 kHz; base tested during Qweak up to 150 krad

Simulation Update

  • Ye now has SoLID vs. Beamtest Edep plots. What about radiation dose?

Discussions

  • Xiaochao: Should we start considering active base design?
  • JP: LED test is different from beam, need to be cautious about using LED test results
  • Paul S.: passive base has its own advantages, should wait for more lessons from NPS
  • JP: If we need more tests, need to coordinate with Simona on effort planning
  • Zhiwen/Xinzhan: Weizhi looked at 82-deg data GEM rates. Now will look at 18 deg data.
  • Xinzhan is testing methods for Fermilab GEM test data
  • Xiaochao will email Rakitha about finding readout method for LASPD

Discussion with SDU+THU groups

(Xiaochao, Zhihong, Cunfeng, 8pm ET)

  • Cunfeng: SDU Ye Tian soldered the resistors on the PMT for the two SDU Shower modules. Zhihong: For the THU module, should have used the base directly from Hamamatsu
  • Zhihong: asked to study peak integral vs. integration time window (pileup and gain change will show up differently)
  • Cunfeng:
    • Showed test of Chunhui fiber fusion using 1 of the many methods, see slide: [1]
    • As can be seen from the slide, the light transfer efficiency is 15% using the method. On slide 8, we have compairson of different fusing method but the highest is only 60%. This is comparable to fiber bundle (basically, the geometrical matching factor between two random circles is already 60%). And so we should go back to our baseline design using Fujikura DDK fiber connectors.
  • MCPPMT: Zhihong said he sent one to Alexandre.
